RHS student wins art show

This past Saturday RHS art teacher Liz Waters took her Advanced Art students to the 2nd Annual Chalk It Up! sidewalk chalk juried contest in Snowmss Co. on the mall. Jose Lira, a senior, came in 1st place for the student sidewalk chalk art. He won $100 and a plaque. We are very proud of our art bears!

In the next few days, Gordon Cooper will go on a reconnaissance mission in the hills around his home in Rifle to see if he can spot some elk.
He jokes that if he gets close enough to one of the creatures, he will put a rope around its neck and tie it to a tree so he will have an easy target when hunting season opens in the fall. In reality, he's scouting territory that might make for good (Continued...)

How would you handle the Gulf of Mexico oil spill?
Students in Jackie Davis’ Coal Ridge High School biology classes started the first week of class with just that proposition. Using potential solutions including grass, cat tails, hair, dirt and cotton balls, students used the scientific method to test their theories about the best way to remove oil from a large body of water. - more -

The Glenwood Springs Elks Lodge No. 2286 is pleased to announce this year’s
scholarship recipients. Nearly $13,000 was distributed among 17 students from four area high schools. Coal Ridge High School student Amanda Yost received $1,300 from the Elks.  Congratulations Amanda!

BLM teaches at Camp Invention
