At the March 14, 2017 School Board meeting, Karen Satter was approved as the new principal at Riverside Middle School.
Ms. Satter has been with the Garfield Re-2 School District for 13-years including 10-years at Riverside Middle School, six-years as counselor and four as Dean of Students and Athletic Director. During her 21-years in education, she has served in a variety of roles including classroom teacher, counselor, instructional coach, dean of students and athletic director. She is currently a counselor, instructional coach and dean of students at Graham Mesa Elementary.
Ms. Satter has raised her two children in New Castle and believes that her familiarity with the staff and the community will be significant assets as she transitions into her new role.
“I’ve been part of the community for years. My youngest son has been through in the Garfield Re-2 school system from Pre-school and is now at Coal Ridge High School, and my oldest son is graduating this year from Coal Ridge High School,” said Satter. “I know people in the New Castle, they know me. We are a community and we rely on each other.”
She is excited to take the reigns of a school that she is passionate about.
“I believe in this school,” said Satter. “I believe in the people that are there–the staff, the students, the parents and the community. It is a place where we can make the relationships very deep and the achievement very high.”
Ultimately, Satter explained that the foundation to any successful school is relationships.
“I am most looking forward to building relationships and developing a positive culture and climate at Riverside for all of our stakeholders,” she said.
Ms.Satter will take over for current Principal Jeena Williams who resigned earlier this year. Ms. Williams will leave at the end of the 2016-17 school year.
On February 23 and 24, three Principal finalists went through a two-day interview process that included a student interview panel, and a second panel that included teachers, staff, Riverside and Garfield Re-2 administrators, and parents. All participants provided feedback for Superintendent Brent Curtice to review as part of the deliberation process.
“We had exceptional candidates for the Riverside position,” said Brent Curtice, Garfield Re-2 Superintendent. “Karen has deep knowledge of the New Castle community, Riverside Middle School, and the goals of the district. She has a passion for middle school students developing relationships. We are excited to welcome her in her new role. We are grateful for Ms. Williams service and wish her success in her new ventures.”
Have a fun and safe summer!
School will resume August 14, 2017
